Weekly Buys - 21 May 2012
Its been a while since I've posted a weekly buy post but when I found out about Forever New I just had to post about a few of their items that I had bought. In all honesty I can't take the credit for finding Forever New as the hubby spotted that one of the shop girls at the bakery had a coat that he thought I would like and asked her where she got it.
The first item I picked up was the Rhianna Velvet Trim Coat. A gorgeous wool blend coat that will be fantastic for our trip to the Blue Mountains in June. The Hubby actually treated me to the coat as an early birthday pressie.
When I checked out Forever New's website I saw they did this Cutie Bow Bonnet that matches the coat so I went in store to buy it but sadly my local store did not have any stocked. I did however pick up a cute sailor style pleated skirt that was in the sale and then had a further 40% off. I can't find the skirt on the website but I'm sure it will pop up on my blog in an outfit post soon. I have also spotted a few pretty vintage inspired items on their site that I will probably snap up soon.

Ruby Review 5th Birthday
On Sunday night the hubby and I headed to the Factory Theatre to watch The Ruby Revues 5th Birthday. This was the last chance to catch the Ruby Revue as the Ruby Revue is taking a break from its residency at The Arthouse Hotel to focus on regional and international shows.
The night was compared by Miss Burlesque Australia 2010 Rita Fontaine and featured a host of burlesque talent. Some of the best of the night were the comical songs from Kitty Van Horne aka Tara Queen of the Nile, Holly JaDoll's naughty nun routine, Imogen Kelly's Claire de Lune hoop dress routine which I believe was a tribute to Sally Rand's bubble routine was simply stunning and left the audience silence by its beauty. Imogen's second act the caterpillar to butterfly act was also amazing. Jennifer Kovac's fabulous aerial silks routine left the audience awestruck. A mention also goes to Danica Lee's super sultry striptease.
Overall the event was a fantastic night of some of the best burlesque talent in the country. I for one will certainly miss The Ruby Revue and I hope it comes back to Sydney soon. In the meantime some shots from the night can be seen on the Australian Burlesque Calendar page on Facebook here

The show was fantastic and I will write a review of the show soon but for now here is the outfit I wore on the night. I took the opportunity to wear my new Soda Fountain Dress in Ginger from Modcloth. However it was a little colder than I first realised when I stepped outside so I dashed back in and grabbed the jacket and beret.

Emma aime at the Movies: Iron Sky
The hubby and I took our Nephew to see Iron Sky on Thursday night at Hoyts Entertainment Quarter hosted by Hoyts and Nuffnang. After touring the Hoyts establishments we settled into the cinema to see the movie.
Iron Sky is a science fiction comedy which tells the story of Nazi Germans who, after being defeated in 1945, fled to the Moon where they built a space fleet to return in 2018 and conquer Earth. The movies was one of those great silly funny movies with some great spoof and satiric moments. Far from being a mindless comedy the movie mind a great point about the state of our governments today.
I especially enjoyed the vintage styling that appeared in the movie the best example of this is the fabulous outfits (and hairstyle) that Renate wears whilst on the moonbase. I have since found out that the underwear and stockings that Renate wears was provided by Nicole Jenkins of Circa Vintage Clothing from her collection of 1940s lingerie. I also loved some of Vivian's crazy ensembles.
Iron Sky is in cinemas now!

Two Ways to Wear: Drop Waist to Say Hi Dress
Last week my order from Modcloth arrived. It included my 'Drop Waist to Say Hi Dress'. The dress reminds me of a 1960's mod scooter dress but with the right styling it could also be a 1920s day dress. Here's how I would wear it:
