Love Vintage Show - March 2012
Last Friday the Purple Fairy and I headed to Horden's Pavilion to meet up with the Old Hat bunch and check out the Love Vintage show. There were many beautiful dresses but as I was on a budget I didn't pick anything up.
Here I am with Michelle of Ravishing Retro in a beautiful ensemble that won her forth place in the best dressed competition. Unfortunately after having to work til late last minute I didn't have time to curl my hair. Walking from Central to Horden's Pavilion left it very windswept and definitely not looking its best!
Tim and Jesse of Like Johnny and June both looked fantastic, sadly we couldn't persuade them to enter the best dressed competition as a couple.

Mad Men Season 5 is Finally Here!
**Warning contains spoilers!**
After a year and a half wait season 5 of Mad Men is finally here! Season 5 is set in 1966 , two years after season 4 ends. The first double episode sees Don turn 40 . Megan and Don are now married and Megan is working as a junior copy editor. Cracks are starting to appear in Don and Megan's relationship as the age gap becomes apparent when Megan throws Don a surprise party but while Megan wants to party all night Don just wants to sleep.
It seems Pete and Trudy's relationship isn't exactly domestic bliss in the suburbs as Trudy appears to be loafing round the house in a robe and Pete is taking later trains home. Life isn't all peachy at work for Pete either as he strives to bring in new business but the rest of the partners fail to take him seriously. His annoyment is fuel further by the fact that Roger keeps muscling in on his meetings
Meanwhile Joan is on maternity leave following the birth of hers and Rogers baby. Joan's Mother is in town to help take care of the baby but is more of a hindrance than a help. After seeing an 'ad' SCDP have placed to get at their competitors Joan is concerned that her job will not be available when she returns.
The end of the episode sees Megan go home upset about Don disliking his party. Don arrives home to find Megan in her underwear and behaving erratically and attempting to clean up from the party after a steamy session on their filthy floor Megan comes to question whether the advertising industry is for her.
So all in all a great start to the season!

Emma aime at the Movies: My Week with Marilyn
As promised a few weeks ago here is my review for my My Week with Marilyn. My Week with Marilyn is based on the book by Colin Clark which recounts the week he spends with Marilyn Monroe and the love affair they have while working on The Prince and the Showgirl. There has been some speculation as to whether the story is true or a figment of Colin Clark's imagination but regardless of that it makes a good story.
Michelle Williams is an actress I never really rated before but after seeing this movie that has certainly changed. Michelle excellently portrays Marilyn's vulnerability and fragility. She was well deserving of the Best Actress Oscar. Eddie Redmayne is fantastic as the young Colin Clark and Kenneth Branagh was flawless as Laurence Olivier.
This film was absolutely stunning shot and I absolutely adore it and now I'm off to watch the Prince and the Showgirl!

The 1920's Look
Although I'm not one to follow the trends I can't help but notice the 1920's revival that's happening at the moment. With movies such as The Artist, Midnight in Paris and of course The Great Gatsby (being released later this year) and TV series such as Underbelly Razor and Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries it seems the 1920s style is everywhere we look.
The 1920's look will definitely be one that I will be adopting this season. Here's how I plan on wearing it:
(from left to right): Ralph Lauren, Gucci, Etro and Marc Jacobs
The influence is especially noticeable on the catwalks of designers like Marc Jacobs, Gucci and Ralph Lauren and can even be seen sported by royalty! The 1920's look will definitely be one that I will be adopting this season. Here's how I plan on wearing it:

Our Idiot Brother Screening
Last night the Hubby and I attended a screening of Our Idiot Brothers hosted by the lovely people from Nuffnang at the Roadshow Theatrette in Pyrmont. We had a little trouble finding the theatre which is tucked away in the building but once we did we were greeted by Kruppy and ushered into the gorgeous intimate little theatrette where welcome drinks awaited us.
At 7 we grabbed our complementary and were ushered into the cinema itself which had all the luxuries of Gold Class including the big squsishy seats which we soon settled in to watch the movie.
As for the movies itself well I adored it. Our Idiot Brother is one of those fun feel good movies with a positive message behind it. Ned (Paul Rudd) is a naive guy who likes to give people the benefit of the doubt and always sees the best in people. This leads to a stink behind bars for selling marijuana to a uniformed police officer. When Ned gets out he spends time crashing with each of his three sisters which ultimately leads to their lives breaking down in one way or another but it is only when their sisters learn to own up to their own mistakes and stop using Ned as a scapegoat that the family truly come together.
Thanks once again to Nuffnang for a fab night out. Our Idiot Brother is out on DVD & Blueray from today!

What Emma Did - 11th March 2012
It seems I completely forgot to post the 'What Emma Did' post for last week so this weeks will be an amalgamation of last weeks and this weeks 'What Emma Did'. So without further ado, this week I have been:
♥ Getting a new job!♥ Venturing out in the rain to check out The Peels 2nd Birthday (I blogged about it here)
♥ Having my hair all chopped off! (you can check it out here)
♥ Finally jumping on the bandwagon and started reading 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo'
♥ Picking up some super cute red ballet flats at Big W for a bargainous $9 (I'm sure they'll show up in an outfit post soon!)
♥ Ordering myself a copy of Style Me Vintage: Clothes after all the noise about it in the blogosphere (I will be sure to review it as soon as it arrives but there are many fab reviews out there already!)
LMFF 2012 Von Follies Show
Last night the divine Dita von Teese showed her Von Follies lingerie range at the Loreal Melbourne Fashion festival. If you, like me could not be there then you can watch the highlights of the show here and for all you Dita fans you can watch the runway of her Muse collection for David Jones here.
Unfortunately I couldn't be at the show last night so I will be consoling myself with other Dita goodies such as the fabulous new Wheels and Dollbaby Dita Cardigan in Navy and Black. I'm still trying to get my hands on the pink version but this is a gorgeous alternative.

The Peel 2nd Birthday: Terrible Two Edition
On Wednesday night the hubby and I braved the torrential rain to check out The Peels 2nd Birthday at Slide hosted by the terrible two themselves Miss Lauren LaRouge and Miss Holly JaDoll the Peel played host to an array of performers some burlesque virgins and some well seasoned repeat offenders.
The show was fabulous as always but some of the standouts of the night were Hedy Bell Nova's Heavenly Angel routine, Bella Bee Sweet's fab rendition of When You've Got It, Flaunt It from The Producers, the amazing strong man Abbadon who both wowed and scared us equally, Deb Delicious who had the Devil on her shoulder, drag king dreamboat John Dark and last but certainly not least LayDee KinMEE the divine yodelling drag queen.
The next Peel is not until May and you can check out photo's from this Peel here
