Computer malfunctions

Hello dear readers
I'm a little flustered at the moment as I spilt a full cup of tea on my laptop at the weekend and frazzled it. As a result of this I've lost all my photos and info for future blog posts. Until I can either fix the laptop or find a way to get the information of the hard drive I will probably not be posting for a while.

Have a happy hiatus dear readers ... x

Calendar of Events

As you may have noticed as part of my 'Travel and Timeout' section, I have added a Calendar of Events in Sydney to the top of the blog. If you would like your event added please feel free to message me or leave a comment.

Birthdays and Burlesque

Yesterday was my Mum's birthday so we headed into the City to The Supper Club to catch A Velvet Affair Burlesque. Hosted by the lovely Miss Lauren La Rouge whose witty banter kept us entertained all evening, the night showcased some of Sydney's top burlesque talent.
The evening kicked off with Australia Top Showgirl Sarina Del Fuego who looked every part the goddess in her gold Isis wings. The divine Holly J'Adoll, a newcomer who's taking the scene by storm who titillated and teased with her fabulous Naughty Nun routine and made every man seriously consider Sunday school!

Next came the deliciously dark vocal stylings of Loveday who put a spell on us all with her sultry tones. The delightful Tasia lightened the mood next with her fabulous gold Go-Go girl routine. Leading us into the interval and light as a feather on her feet was the lovely LuLu who wowed us with her stunning fan routine.
After the interval Holly J'Adoll returned with a fabulous balloon popping routine that showed us why everybody wants to be a cat. Tall Paul was doing it for the boys with a hilarious boylesque routine that had us in stitches. Next was a new addition to the program when our lovely compere Lauren after being asked (bribed!) by my Step dad hauled my Mum up on staged for a round of Happy Birthday to You! Suitably embarrassed and threatening to kill my Step dad my Mum returned to her seat and we return to the normal program.
We were in for twice the treat next with a fab double routine from Lulu and Tasia and rounding off the evening was Sheena Miss Demeanour whose "I'm Tired" routine from Blazing Saddles was a perfect comic ending to a fabulous night out. Tired but wonderfully entertained we headed home as the Hubby had to be at work in 4 hours!
The next Velvet Affair will be Friday 30th April and will feature fabulous acts from Heidi Hoops (circus), Georgia Ruby (burlesque), Pedro Ruiz (magician) and more. Head to A Velvet Affair website for more details and photos of the March show.
Check it out for yourselves dear readers ... x

Dita Von Teese is Coming Down Under

Burlesque beauty Dita Von Teese has just announced that she will bring her renowned show to Sydney. She has been invited to fly to Sydney in September in her role as Cointreau ambassador to perform for a one night only performance of her show Be Cointreauversial.
The show is an update of her martini glass act.

"Being someone who performs in a big martini glass, it always seemed obvious I should team up with a liquor brand," Von Teese said recently of the tie-up. "I had been approached before and with all of the other companies there was this 'cheese factor' - they didn't really get it.

"When Cointreau approached, everything was very elegant. I liked their approach to me, my work and their advertising. Their ideas were amazing - they wanted to be provocative but not over the top and convey what I try to convey in my shows.

"They knew it was about being risque and sexy, but not about sex and that the shows combine humour, sensuality, playfulness and fun."

The event will be held on 16th September at a yet undecided venue but unfortunately it is VIP only so we won't be getting our hands on tickets.

Lunch, The Zoo and a New Dress For You!

Monday was a beautiful day so we all headed out for a drive on the Grand Pacific Highway down to the Scarborough Hotel for a spot of lunch. On the way we stopped at the lookout point and got some gorgeous shots (see piccy above!) The sky seemed to be filled with hang-gliders and paragliders which gave me inspiration for my new thing to try this month. It looks like so much fun! After lunch we went to Symbio Wildlife Gardens and made some new friends! Please excuse my squinty eyes it was rather a bright day. Incidentally I must stop being so lazy with my hair and outfit choices. I seem to be wearing a lot of singlets lately and I don't actually like them that much! Here's my gorgeous hubby with his new friend. That's my Mum and Stepdad in the background.

In other news I have now listed the Chicstar Vintage Pencil Dress on Ebay. You can find it here!

Happy bidding dear readers ... x

Diverisfying My Blog

http://www.scottawoodward.com/fashion_portraiture/pin_up.html I've decided I want to make my blog a bit more diverse. Emma aime started as a blog about all the things I like but in recent month it seems to have become purely fashion focused. I have had comments from readers who said they preferred the blog when I first started it, when there was a wider range of blog subjects. With this in mind I have devised some new blog "sections" on a host of thing I enjoy

Recipes - with a range of 1940's, 50's and wartime recipes and other sweet treats to titillate your tastebuds.

Books - Book reviews on both fiction books and those on range of subjects including vintage clothing, beauty and cooking.

Travel and Time Out - In my spare time I love planning trips to far off places and making itineraries (I'm an obsessive list maker) I also like visiting new places in my area so I'll bring more of this to my blog.

Housekeeping - Where I will bring you some classic housekeeping tips from the 1940s and 50's.

Film Reviews - I love watching movies new and old alike and I have done a few film reviews in the past so I will bring you more of these.

Are there any other sections you would like to see dear readers ... x

Shabby Chic and Sewing Feats

http://www.rockinbclothing.comMy Mum, Stepdad and I headed to the monthly Vintage by Sea Market in Cronulla today. I didn't have any pennies to spend so typically I saw loads of gorgeous thing I wanted to buy. I saw a fab pair of fan shaped deco earrings, a few brooches and some handbags that would now be mine if I had some money. My mum did treat me to a cute sundress that I will probably wear on Friday when I meet up with the girlies so I will post some pics then. Friday is also my Mummy Birthday (the big 5-0!) so we're going to A Velvet Affair at The Supper Club in Darlinghurst.

The hubby (thats him looking handsome above) and my Stepdad headed over to Olympic Park in the afternoon to play at being Robin Hood (that's archery to you and me!) so my Mum and I set up the sewing machine I borrowed from the Italian fairy and my superstar Mummy managed to get all my clothes taken in so I now have something to wear. Now we've mastered the machine we're going to attempt a couple of pencil skirts next week. I've had my eye on this one by Pinup Couture for a while and it shouldn't be too hard to recreate. Unfortunately the Black Vintage Pencil dress that I bought a few weeks back is just too big and too long in the bodice and we would have to take the whole dress apart and reconstruct it to make it fit me correctly so it will be going on Ebay this week.

Have a good weekend dear readers ... x

My Dressmaking Plans Scuppered

My plan to take in all my too big clothes and make a new dress with the help from my Mum were scuppered yesterday. When we got my new sewing machine out and tried it we realised that the thread feeder was no good and the thread kept snapping. I suppose that this is what happens when you buy a cheap sewing machine but I didn't want to spend too much money on a machine when I'm new to dressmaking and might not be any good at it.
Luckily the Italian Fairy came to my rescue and is lending me her machine on Friday so I can make inroads into the huge pile of clothes I have for alterations. Once I get a bit better at using the machine I will attempt to make a dress. Ive been picking up some gorgeous patterns on Etsy and Ebay. So I'll keep you all posted.

On a separate note I want to say a big thanks to Glasgow Galah who has left some lovely messages on her blog, When I grow up I'm going to be a Pinup Girl about my blog recently. It's always nice to see that someone actually reads my ramblings and enjoys it so I was really chuffed to see her comments.

New Hair Thanks to Mummy

Thanks to my lovely Mummy cutting my hair in the long length style from the 1940's hairstyle book my hair is now curlable. Normally the curl drops out of my hair in about 10 minutes but now that it has been cut properly and alot of the weight has been cut off it stayed curly all day.

Here I am looking glamourous in my curlers:

My Chicstar Order

I was so excited today when I got my Chicstar order in the post. However my excitement soon turned to disappointment when I realised that I have lost a dress size in the time between placing my order and it arriving on my doorstep (about a week!)

As for the items themselves. I ordered the item below and I have to say they're not bad. They aren't great quality but for the price you pay you can't really complain. You definitely get what you pay for. Once I've taken the dresses in they will probably be popping up in future outfit posts so you can judge for yourselves. The dress that inspired me to put together the Alice in Wonderland inspired outfit unfortunately doesn't suit me so I will be offering it as part of a giveaway later in the year.

On an Easter hunt for the Golden Egg

Dearest readers

Do you ever get one of those moments when you just have to have a certain foodstuff. Well I had one of those cravings today. This left me scouring the supermarkets like a woman on a mission for Cadbury's Mini Eggs. I have to be honest I'm not normally a Cadbury's chocolate fan but Mini Eggs are a definite exception to the rule. However on this occasion I my search came up fruitless (or eggless should I say!) I found no trace of Mini Eggs or any Mini egg related products. No chocolate nests no Mini egg cakes and even no cheap home brand Mini egg like substitutes. It seems that even though we are in a tropical climate Mr Cadburys Parrot does not reside here. So I had to settle for Dairy Milk Eggs in the end but its just not the same!

So if any of you lovelies can track down these delicious Easter treats in Sydney please let me know

Daily Outfit - Polka Dots

This is the second outfit posts of the week! The hubby and I don't have much planned today just heading over to the pub to see the girlies. The weather is quite nice so I'm sporting this cute blue polka dot dress I picked up when I was on holidays in Port Stephens last year. Its by a company called Sundrenched and was a steal for $25. Its so cute I got it in red as well! The earring I'm wearing I made myself. They were one of my Fimo experimentations but unfortunately on of the leaf has broken off already. As you can see I'm wearing my red flats from Target again! I live and die in these. They re just so comfortable and cute. I'm desperately hunting all the Targets in my area trying to find a black pair at the moment. I know they definitely do them in black as I seen Esme and the Laneway sporting them on the blog.

I apologise for the dodgy camera work. I really must find another way to shoot my outfits. Unfortunately were in a rather bijou rental apartment at the moment so shooting space is at a premium. The place could really do with a spruce up but were quite restricted as to what we can do. So excuse the disgusting grey carpet. I'm searching for a gorgeous rug and new blinds as we speak.

Have a great weekend dear readers ... x

My Resolutions - February Update

I just realised I haven't yet done the update for my new years resolutions for February so here it is:

Take more risks in life - I have been pretty shoddy with this resolution. The hubby and I still haven't booked the paragliding as he is very busy with college and working 3 jobs! This means I now have three activities that I have to complete in this category to catch up with myself. I have been looking at a few activities though. A few that caught my eye are trapeze classes and white water rafting.

Reach my goal weight - At last weigh in I was 60kg this was a little while ago though so I may have lost a bit more since then. However I do have to admit I've been a bit naughty with the food I've been eating recently and with my Mum and Step Dad coming out for March I'm not likely to get better any time soon. It is something i will try to keep an eye on though.

Study Childcare - After getting a huge stack of notes from the Purple Fairy last month I have been slowly but surely wadding my way through them, making copies of some and making my own notes about others. I have covered 4 or 5 topics but I still have about 10 more I think so it will keep me busy for a few months to come.

Continue to grow this blog - I finally posted my Halloween picture from last year! wohooo!!! I have also done a few more outfit posts of late and thanks to my blogs singing their praises Chicstar have sent me a free dress!

Have your resolutions lasted into March dear readers?

Daily Outfit - Little Red Dress

After work this morning I headed into the city to meet the hubby for lunch. I was there a little early so I took a walk around darling harbour. I did want to take a ride on the beautiful carousel in Tumbalong park but unfortunately it was closed.

The hubby and I headed over to my friend the Italian Fairy's restaurant - The Little Snail for their gorgeous $35 lunch special. The food was absolutely delicious. I did plan on taking my camera to get some snaps of it but still being fairly new to blogging I often forget to take photos for my posts!!

This morning was a chilly one in Sydney so I wore the outfit I described in Friday's post. Here are the photos.
Red dress SES
Black roll neck SES
Red peep toes Target
Red beret Christian Dior

Time for Tea

Being English I love my tea! I probably get through about 8 cups a day. At the moment I drink it out of these Ikea mugs which are perfectly practical but I would love to enjoy drinking my tea out of something a little prettier. With this is mind I have been scouring the Internet in search of the perfect teacup and saucer. This is what I've found:
